Catch the move that matters

A 5% move on $2B traded is real repricing — earnings, guidance, news. A 5% twitch on no volume is noise. The board ranks moves weighted by dollar volume, so only the real ones surface.

🐋

Spot unusual volume

A stock quietly trading 3× its 20-day average volume is institutions repositioning — often before the price fully reflects it. Volume leads price. This is the footprint.

The Board

📖 How to read this board

  1. Last is the stock's last closing price. 1d Δ is the day's percent change — the sparkline shows the last ~2 months. Rows are ranked by move size weighted by dollar volume, so a big move on real money outranks a bigger twitch on a sleepy name.
  2. Tags interpret the pattern for you. Big gap = ±5% day, check the news. Woke up = trading at 3×+ its own 20-day average volume — someone is repositioning with size. Momentum = day and week moving the same way. Reversal = today fights the weekly trend — the crowd is changing its mind.
  3. Volume Surges tab ranks stocks by today's volume vs their own 20-day average. 4× means four times more shares than normal changed hands.
  4. Click any ticker to open it on Yahoo Finance and read the news and chart before doing anything.
Worked example: a mid-cap drifted sideways for a month, then printed 6× its average volume on a +2% day — two sessions before the acquisition headline. Volume woke up before price did. Traders who saw the surge investigated early; everyone else read about it after the gap. That's the entire point of this board.

FAQ

Is this financial advice?

No. This is a data tool: it shows you what moved and where volume was unusual, with zero judgement about what you should do. No recommendations. Stocks involve real risk — always do your own research.

Where does the data come from?

Yahoo Finance daily data, refreshed every 15 minutes and delayed — this is an end-of-day/near-EOD board, not a real-time feed. The universe is the S&P 500 plus the Nasdaq-100 (constituents from Wikipedia). No account or key is connected to anything.

Is the free board staying free?

Yes, forever — including the JSON API (/api/movers, /api/surges). Pro adds alerts, intraday scans, breakout boards and history.

What counts as a "volume surge"?

Today's share volume at least 2× the stock's own trailing 20-day average. Earnings days, index rebalances and option-expiry Fridays routinely trigger it — the tag tells you that something happened, the news tells you what.

Are you affiliated with Yahoo or any exchange?

No — independent project built by a trader. Data is provided by Yahoo Finance and may be delayed or incomplete; verify before acting.
